How can a bride prepare for a clean looking face on her wedding day?
"Preparing your skin for your wedding day should begin as soon as possible. I always recommend working with a licensed esthetician for regular facials or treatments and the appropriate product recommendations specifically for your skin and concerns. A few steps beyond the basics that you can easily do on your own are using an eye cream at least once a day, using a treatment serum under your moisturizer and investing in a quality exfoliator. I typically recommend glycolic peel pads since they are so simple to use. There are many brands available, depending on where you prefer to shop and your budget. These help with many skin issues but one of the main benefits for makeup is that they help with the overall texture of your skin."
Tell us more about the different bridal makeup styles & tips on how to choose a makeup style that best suits the bride
"I believe your bridal makeup style should reflect your personal style and compliment your natural beauty while also completing your wedding day look. With makeup there are endless possibilities, which can be so much fun but also overwhelming in a sense. When I consult with brides I consider how they feel best when wearing makeup for a special occasion as well as wedding style details such as their dress, hairstyle, venue and color palette. For example, a daytime ceremony that is outside during the summer will more likely be a softer, more romantic style. For a winter, evening wedding held at a formal ballroom, a more dramatic look with more definition and color may be preferred. Ultimately I believe you should always stay true to yourself and whatever makes you feel your best is the right look."
What are the benefits of having a trial before the wedding?
"So much is accomplished in a trial appointment! This session is very important to both the bride and the makeup artist. It’s a perfect way to try out the look you believe you want and then wear it for the day. For some brides, it is more makeup than they have ever worn and it’s a great way to measure how much or how little you may want for the big day. If you are trying something new such as airbrush makeup or a certain type of false lashes, it allows you the opportunity to try them without being concerned of how you may like them. From here you will be able to make adjustments so that your wedding day look is perfected. From the makeup artist’s perspective, it allows us to determine the best products for your skin and preferences. I also really enjoy the time spent face-to-face with my brides. This provides an opportunity to discuss so many wedding-related details as well as beauty-related topics."
Are there any differences between a regular makeup for any other event and a bridal specific makeup?
"There are so many differences between regular makeup and bridal makeup. One very notable difference is your wedding day is such a significant day in your life and is probably your most photographed day. You want your makeup to look beautiful in your photos and video but you also want it to look fresh and beautiful in person. You may also want to keep your look more on the classic side so your photos will be more timeless. While a makeup look for a fun night out, look that is more creative or trendy is perfect. If you are someone who is very fashion-forward or more creative with your style, stay true to yourself and keep those elements in your wedding day makeup look. Another key difference is that the day is full of emotion, crying is definitely going to happen at some point as well as eating, drinking, dancing and so much more. You want your makeup to hold up to your day and all that it has in store."
Are there any other tips you would like to share with us?
"Finding a professional who is licensed and knowledgeable about hygiene and sanitation is so important. Now more than ever, people are more aware of this - thank goodness. Your makeup artist should be knowledgeable and experienced in working with any skin tone or color, age and skin type. They should have a complete, professional makeup kit that has the appropriate products for everyone. Look for someone who listens to you. The same style or techniques do not compliment everyone the same way. Your makeup should always enhance and compliment your unique and natural beauty and personal style."
